A Tree Grows in Brooklyn by Betty Smith - 9/10

Updated: Feb 26

A Tree Grows in Brooklyn is the story of a girl named Francie. It follows Francie through her childhood as she grows up impoverished in Brooklyn, New York in the early twentieth century. The story explores love, family, friends, school, feminism, war, wealth, death, and countless other fascinating things. This is a wonderful book that is beautiful and very interesting due to the fact that it was written by a woman in the forties.
