Heartstopper by Alice Oseman

Updated: Jan 9, 2022

Realistic and sweet, this book really surprised me! Heartstopper may be my favorite graphic novel now, and there is just one reason for that: the book has realistic teenagers. The story follows Charlie as he breaks away from a toxic relationship and discovers real and wholesome romance. In Nick he finds a friend and love, two things he had been lacking. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes graphic novels--or actually anyone at all! After all, I don't usually like graphic novels... AGE RANGE TEEN THEMES Highschool LGBTQ+

Rugby OVERALL RATING 9.8/10 This is actually just a wonderful book! I don't have any complaints, so I'll focus on the positive here. Realistic teenagers and teen relationships are such a rare thing in literature, which makes Heartstopper a rare book. The way the characters talk and think is understandable and relatable to teens. They aren't overly cool--not even the dream boyfriend character is. They're just people who will make any reader, but especially a teen, feel more like a person themselves. PROS Honest Realistic teens!!!

Fun CONS

A bit of a cliffhanger at the end so you have to buy the next in the series, but that's not necessarily a problem since the second and third books are probably just as good as the first. NOTES

I have not read the rest of the series, but I assume it is just as great as the first book. I will update this once I have, but that may be quite a while.
