Pax by Sara Pennypacker

Updated: Jan 7, 2022

Pax is the story of a boy named Peter and his beloved fox, Pax. When Peter's family has to move in with his Grandpa, he is forced to leave Pax behind, abandoning him in the woods with nothing but his toy soldier to protect him. Peter soon realizes that he cannot live without his fox, and sets out on a perilous journey to reunite with him. The story is written in part from Peter's perspective, and in part from Pax's perspective. The two friends encounter many interesting characters including a peg-legged soldier who spends her days of retirement creating puppets in her cabin in the woods. This is a beautiful and heartbreaking story of loss and friendship.
