The Night Journey by Kathryn Lasky - 8/10

Updated: Feb 26

Rachel has always been instructed not to discuss the past with her great grandmother - it will only upset Nana Sashie. Stories need to be told, though, and as Rachel spends more time with her Nana Sashie, the tale of an incredible escape from Tsarist Russia begins to unfold.

OVERALL RATING 8/10

Important story, informative about Jewish history, quick and fun read

I enjoyed reading this book and learning about a piece of history I hadn't heard before. Nana Sashie's story is such an important one to be told, and is simultaneously exciting and engaging. Some parts of the story I feel could have been fleshed out better, but in such a short book there is only so much you can describe. I would recommend this book for older kids and teens looking to learn more about Jewish history, or looking for a fun story with a whimsical feel.
